Bye Bye Baby

My emotional reflective phase continues!

I had a garage sale this past weekend with my sister. I'm a big fan of going to them, so I was sure I'd have just as much fun having one of my own. The jury is still out about whether or not it was worth all the work involved, but the kids really enjoyed their lemonade stand (I think they drank most of it!) and I cleared about 7 bags/bins of clothes out of my spare bedroom, so mission accomplished. I also got rid of my baby stuff along with the baby clothes. It was sort of emotional seeing all my baby stuff spread out on tables and hung up. I had moments of panic....did I save enough of it.....should I keep this or that???? As people would come and buy things I would drift back to a memory of one of my daughters either playing with the toy or wearing a particular outfit....so I'm curious....is this normal?? Am I the only one that has gone through this process of "grieving" the babyhood of my children? I know that the future holds more fun and many more memories as my kids get older, but I admit.....I'm sad....it's really hard! I'm sure I'll get over it soon enough, but for now, I think I'll just look at more baby pictures and tear up a little!

I think it's always hard to see them grow...being a mom is so bittersweet. Our job is to raise them to be independent adults, but in our hearts we want them to still need us (even when they are driving us crazy!). I think it's totally normal to grieve every phase of their journey as it passes - it brings excitement as they enter new ones, but you can't help but not want the old ones to pass.

Enjoy your photos and tears...I think it is totally normal.

I agree with our wise friend Heather also!!

with the closure of each phase comes the opening of a new one!

it is good to get rid of it all now (except those few sentimental things) other wises it just piles up on you and you wonder why you kept it. so good job!

I agree, it's hard! Jack just started saying "mommy" instead of "mama" and it made me a little sad! He's no longer a "baby". :( I love the baby stages.

So glad you're blogging!
